Inaugural Post — The Road Begins
By Redmond Alloy
East of Dallas on I-20, a flatbed stacked with copper sheet, brass tube, and what looks like 954 aluminum bronze tube rolls past in the left lane. The copper sheet catches the sunlight — a mix of raw bar and sheet stock strapped tight, probably headed toward a machine shop in Tyler/Longview or maybe down to a Gulf Coast supplier. It’s the kind of sight that tells you business is moving, but not quite as smoothly as it used to. It’s a familiar sight to anyone in this business — and exactly where this journey begins and this blog is needed.
Today marks the inaugural post for The Red Metals Reporter — a new source for insight into the non-ferrous metals industry across the South-Central U.S. (Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana).
This blog offers an insider’s view from the road — covering the world of copper, brass, and bronze, including pricing, availability, tariffs, and supply chain trends — along with my “Field Notes” about the cities and how they play a roll, a Q&A series featuring industry voices on what really matters in the trade.
Expect monthly updates on metal markets, tariffs, mill activities, and regional availability – plus first-hand field stories from distributors, shop floors, and mill reps. This isn’t corporate PR; it’s an honest ground level assessment to inform and prepare. It’s our industry.
Thank you for reading — and for helping launch a new platform dedicated to those who work, sell, and build with the red metals.
